Ideas

Some people believe
We are surrounded by ghosts,
Old spirits who hang on,
Wanting what they didn’t get-
Revenge,
Lost love,
Closure.

I don’t believe in ghosts.
We will all leave behind
A lifetime of unendings.

Instead,
I believe that ideas surround us.
Quiet and invisible,
We breathe them in and out
As they wait to be noticed.

Ideas will come alive
When pen touches page,
Paintbrush sweeps canvas,
Fingers settle on keys,
Shovel sinks into earth.

Until then,
They are always here
Waiting
For a hand or heart
To usher them
Into life.
