camping

I
by the fire
staring off
into the woods
aglow
with morning’s rays

you
walking
the carpet
of leaves
noticing
each subtle
change of light

I
reading
a book
of poems

you
reading
the trees
the hills
the valleys

and now
you
join me
at the fire

we are
together
apart
together
apart
together

this is how
we have
evolved
each submerged
in our own
world
then coming up
for air
to find the other
always there

“Ready for another cup of coffee?”
“Sure.”
