Your Gift

Your Gift

In this cold, bleak season,
the cover of green long gone,
all kinds of messiness is exposed.
The world looks stark,
turning thoughts to gray.

Then,
one, small, lovely thing
breaks through the gloom-
a simple kindness, perhaps,
that might have been overlooked
during more lush times,
and there is a shift,
a softening.

I am reminded that,
in this bleak season,
it is up to each of us
to share our loveliness.

We have to believe,
beyond evidence to the contrary,
that the world,
or at least someone in it,
desperately needs
what we have to give.

The impact
is not ours
to understand.

  1. Gray morning

As I walked out the door of my country home, I noticed the grayness about the day.
I look to the sky and the only shade was gray.
I looked over the wooded hillside and saw many shades of gray in the bare tree trunks and branches. As I look down into the hollows, I noticed a light gray mist rising over the deep ravens.
I wonder to myself, what is the meaning of these shades of gray.
As I ponder that question, I noticed a light gray mist was rising up from the hollows to the top of the hillsides, lifting slowly, gracefully, with non define shapes.
It was then that my question was answered,
the gray is meant to slowly lift your spirit and patiently await the colors of the earth to arrive…….
