If I Could Tell You Just One Thing

If I Could Tell You Just One Thing

If I could tell you just one thing,
it would be this-
beneath the daily disappointments,
beneath the layers
of frustration,
anger,
sadness,
beneath even
your despair

lies pure,
inextinguishable
light.

No one else can give it to you,
no one else can take it away
because it is uniquely yours.

It is kindled by all kinds of beauty-
the face of a child,
a lovely song,
the sun filtering through the trees.
Kindness
is its circuitry.

Still,
there is cruelty,
conflict,
tragedy
that your tender heart
must somehow reconcile.

But there is also hope.
We are healed
and we are healers
when we respond
from our core of light.

If I could tell you just one thing,
it would be this.
But I can only shed light
on what you already know.

  1. How do you do it? How do you think to post what I need to hear? Scott’s dad died last Wednesday and today I am going to my beloved cousin, Jeannie’s visitation. Sad times but you rekindled my inner light with your words Thank you Maria.

    1. Sorry to hear about Scott’s dad and your cousin. So much loss in such a short time. Hang in there, Jenny!

  2. yep, I needed that one too. I had my first flu shot ever on the last day of October, and I have been in a funk ever since. I’m sure I’m putting excessive blame on the shot, but I’m not my inwardly resilient self. But this too shall pass. Thanks for the encouragement.
