Just This Moment in Time
It is a cold December evening.
We have just returned
from a night hike
under the stars
and now,
you stoke the wood stove
while I settle in
with a good book,
basking in the cozy warmth
of this little cabin.
Just you and me
tucked into this forest,
miles away
from the rest of the world.
I am here now, yes,
but also observing us
as if from a distance of years,
a time when we may be
too old to come here,
too feeble for a night hike.
As if, maybe then,
I could relive this simple scene
in my mind,
come back for just a bit
to this delicate moment in time.
