Unlike these birds
who wake up singing,
I like to start my day
slowly,
quietly.
I sit at this window
and stare for a bit
into the contrasting
shades of green.
The green tells me-
reach up,
grow,
be a home.
The contrast tells me-
there is more
than one narrative.
Listen.
And when the green is gone,
I want to have written it
on my mind and heart.
I want this always
to be my beginning,
my source,
so that I can be
a window
into greenness.

I love all the shades of green in the spring and summer.
