Blinded

Blinded

A cardinal landed
on the snow covered pine
right outside my window.

Consumed with thoughts
of how someone hurt me,
reviewing what I could have said,
what I still might say,
I looked right through her.

Just a flick of red and tan
at the corner of my eye
as she flew away.

She is back again—
my blessed second chance.

I clear my mind
and take in
the gift of this moment.

I will carry her with me
all day long.
She is a much better companion
than indignation.
