Second Child of My Second Child
When your older sister was born,
we had no idea
how completely her presence
would transform
everything.
Compelled by an astonishing love,
we rebuilt our lives
and reshaped our hearts
around her.
She taught us to be a family.
When I was pregnant with you,
I worried.
How would I have enough love,
enough energy
for another?
You came slowly
and in your own unique way.
The moment I held you,
my heart and our family expanded.
In all your tiny perfection,
you taught us to let go
of perfection
and embrace abundance
and wonder instead.
Now, those memories come floating back
as I watch your heart expand
beyond what you believed possible
to embrace your new one.
So blessings
to the second child of my second child.
May you bring your family
the gifts of abundance
and wonder
that your mother brought to us
all those years ago.
